January 2013

Dear (Contact First Name),

2013 is shaping up to be an exciting year for the association, for BC and for Economic Development.  Several initiatives, combined with our 2013 BC Economic Summit, are all being designed with one thing in mind - strengthening the exposure of the work of our members and partners.
It has been almost six years since I took on the role of CEO for the EDABC.  We have seen significant changes - some good, some not so good, but never have I regretted my decision to focus my efforts on working for the overall good of economic development in BC.  No it has not always been fun, and no I have not always been able to please everyone, but one thing for certain is that I have never regretted not taking the easier route.  When asked what my weaknesses are, I honestly believe that it is putting other people first.  My commitment to EDABC and our members is strong and I will continue to put it first for you, our members, and for the work that is being done throughout BC by some amazing economic development practitioners.
Eighteen months ago, EDABC announced that we would be making available Economic Development workshops around BC in order to better inform elected officials on the importance of economic development.  We had started to develop a list of communities that wanted these workshops, when the Province of BC approached us about working with them to deliver these sessions.  This partnership, we hope, will help to support the work of those doing economic development in communities. You should have received your information on these workshops - if you have not please let us know.  Your input is requested in making sure that they meet your needs.
See you in January.
Dale Wheeldon, President & CEO

Economic Development Resources

Did you know that EDABC has an extensive library in resources available on our website. This includes manuals on Investment Readiness, Economic Development Structures, Economic Impact Analysis and more. Using our own resources and that of our partners we continue to add more.  Here are a couple of articles that may interest you.

Being Alone, Together: Coworking as Economic Development

Coworking brings independent workers together, but the benefits are greater than just a shared work environment. Social interaction, shared learning, and opportunities for innovation and collaboration are just some of the synergies that happen when talented people come together.

Being Alone, Together: Coworking as Economic Development

Smart phones are not only ubiquitous, but are the preferred device for users who are looking for local information. In Syracuse, N.Y., the regional EDO developed an app that connects member businesses with residents and visitors. CenterState Connect won IEDC's Gold award for Excellence in Economic Development, new media, in 2012.

EDABC Benefits Program

EDABC Benefits Program
Working with our partners at ICBA Benefit Services, EDABC has developed a comprehensive benefits program for members of EDABC.  You may also pass this information on to your board members and local companies as an option they may wish to consider.  We only ask that you make sure they ask that EDABC be credited when signing up and perhaps purchase a membership in EDABC.

This program is available to EDO's and staff, private consultants, development companies, small businesses and anyone else that may have an interest in supporting the economic growth of our Province.  This plan is competitively priced and is available to any sized company.
